Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz on Saturday distributed compensation cheques amongst the relatives of those who lost their lives in the tragic multi-train accident near Ghotki on July 13. "Money is no substitute for the precious lives that were lost," he told a group of people; including women who lost her young son and another who lost her husband.
"It was a very sad incident and I was shocked to see the horrific crash in news," the Prime Minister said, who returned home on Saturday from Germany and Italy.
The Minister for Railways Shamim Haider earlier met the Prime Minister at the Islamabad airport early this morning and gave him the latest details.
Shaukat Aziz asked the minister to expedite the inquiry being conducted to look into the factors leading to the country's first ever three-train accident.
The Prime Minister said he has asked Railways to take all necessary measures to avoid recurrence of any such incident in future. He also asked the Railways Minister to bring to task those responsible for the tragic accident.
Shaukat Aziz offered Fateha for those who were killed and prayed to Almighty Allah to bless the departed soul in eternal peace.
"Only those who have lost a loved one can understand the sheer grief and a sense of loss," the Prime Minister said, however, he asked them to bear it with magnanimity.
He said a number of world leaders have condoled the sad incident and conveyed their sympathies.
The Prime minister handed over cheques of Rs 200,000 each for the dead to their family members.
He also directed the concerned authorities to provide best possible treatment to the injured. President Pakistan Muslim League Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain and Minister for Railways were also present on the occasion.
