Ms Sun Ya Fang, chairwomen of Huawei Technologies Co China Ltd paid a visit to Pakistan recently. During her visit, Huawei signed two contracts amounting to a total value of 54 million dollars with Pakistan's GSM mobile operator Warid Telecom and Wateen Telecom, in the presence of His Highness Sheikh Nahayan Mubarak Al Nahayan, Hamid Farooq, CEO of Warid Telecom and Wangweijun, CEO Huawei Technologies Pakistan (Pvt) Ltd. In these projects, Huawei will provide 1.05 million GSM subscriber radio network capacity covering more than 50 cities for Warid Telecom in Pakistan and will build DWDM backbone transmission for Wateen Telecom covering nearly 5,000 kilometres.
Huawei has been selected by Warid and Wateen as a long-term strategic partner. Huawei has successfully implemented numerous projects in Pakistan. Its primary clients have been government-owned telecom companies like PTCL and NTC and defence communication companies like SCO and NLC.
Huawei has also taken steps to transfer technical expertise to the Pakistani public. Huawei has established a joint IT & telecom centre at the University of Engineering and Technology (UET), Lahore worth Rs 30 million. It is a training centre for the students of UET Lahore, as well as students of other engineering universities. Huawei is also taking steps to develop a manufacturing facility in Pakistan for mobile terminals.
Ms Sun Ya Fang had a meeting with President General Pervez Musharraf and Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz. Both President and Prime Minister appreciated Huawei's participation in the growth of telecom network with latest state of art technology at training centre UET Lahore and future plans to have a local R&D facility as well as local manufacturing set up in Pakistan. These efforts of Huawei provide a platform to strengthen the friendly relationship between the people of China and Pakistan.-PR
