Firing of First Float Glass Plant in Pakistan

Ghani Group - Leaders in Glass, has set-up a mega project of Float Glass at Sheikhupura on 29 km Lahore Sheikhupura Road by the name of Ghani Float Glass (Pvt) Limited. The project is spread over the area of 225 kanal with an investment of approximately Rs 1.5 billion and with production of 350 toss per day. USA adopted the Float technology. Later on China developed the technology and became the largest manufacturer of Float Glass in the world. Now the "Float Process" is very common in Europe and other developed and underdeveloped countries of the world.
This is the first coated, reflective Float Glass Plant in Pakistan equipped with the latest available state-of-the-art technology.
The combination of sand and alkali had caught human imagination as early as 6000 B.C. Window glass as we know today, was in existence in 290 A.D., based on the concepts in glass manufacturing patented in the United States in 1902.
In 1960, Sir Alistair Pilkington of UK invented the "Float" method of glass making which revolutionised the Glass Industry and gave successful production in 1963.

After the above, Germany, Japan and USA adopted the Float technology. Later on China developed the technology and became the largest manufacturer of Float Glass in the world. Now the "Float Process" is very common in Europe and other developed and underdeveloped countries of the world.
It is unfortunate, before this there was no Float Glass plant in the country. Pakistan has been importing Float Glass far before 1988.
Float Glass is made by floating the molten glass on liquid tin in a specialised environment. It is fire polished and absolutely parallel from both sides. Hence, no visible or optical defects can be seen. Examples of a similar quality glass can be commonly seen installed outside big buildings, modern residential houses and hotels.
FLOAT GLASS PROCESS: Comparatively Float, Sheet and Plate glass are all different qualities of Flat Glass. Their difference lies in the particular manufacturing process that is used.
The Float Glass process produces the highest quality of Sheet Glass and is a high-tech and highly automatic process with low production cost as compared with product quality.
It gives us great pleasure to congratulate Ghani Glass on the launch of the first Float Glass Plant in Pakistan. I, being the Chinese team leader, along with the local team have managed to erect the plant in a record period of time. In the making of this plant, the most modern and advanced equipment was used. Ghani Group selected the best Chinese firm for the instigation of this plant. The firm has invested to start up 60% of the float glass plants in China.
