ISLAMABAD: Minister for Inter-Provincial Coordination Riaz Hussain Pirzada Friday said that the government is committed to provide maximum financial and administrative support to the National Sports Federations (NSF) for promotion of their respective games.
During Question Hour in the National Assembly, Riaz Pirzada said the government through Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) was providing financial assistance to the affiliated NSF in the shape of annual grants to meet their day-to-day requirements besides special grants for participation in international competitions at home and abroad.
The minister said that PSB also bears the expenses on preparation and participation of Pakistan contingents in Olympic Games, Asian Games, Commonwealth Games, South Asian Games, Islamic Men and Women Games as well as other mega sports events.
The areas in which efforts are being made to improve the standard of sports in the country included holding of national training camps for preparation and participation in mega events like Olympic, Asian, Commonwealth, South Asian and Islamic games with standard facilities, he added.
Riaz Pirzada said that training courses were organized for coaches in different parts of the country to update the knowledge and methodology of coaching of the participating coaches.
He said that expenses on participation in Olympic, Asian, Commonwealth, South Asian, Islamic and other regional games are borne by the PSB.
He said that the PSB will organize inter-provincial youth tournaments in different sports disciplines in four provinces including AJK and Gilgit-Baltistan during the current financial year in provincial headquarters, he added.
Riaz Pirzada said that PSB organizes inter-board tournaments every year to promote the sports at school and college level.
He said that inter-provincial games will be organized by PSB at Islamabad during 2015 in which sports teams from the provinces as well as AJK, Gilgit-Baltistan and FATA would participate.
The minister said that the position-holders will he awarded lucrative awards to encourage the potential of the athletes.
