imageISLAMABAD: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Wednesday authorized an inquiry on alleged corruption in the award of tender of "Clean Drinking Water for All" (CDWA) by the officials of the Ministry of Special Initiatives in 2005.

The NAB had received a complaint in which it is alleged that massive corruption had been committed in the award of tender of CDWA by the officers of the Ministry of Special Initiative, said spokesman of NAB.

It has also been alleged that Officers/Officials of the said Ministry have allegedly obtained bribe from six companies in award of Tender of "Clean Drinking Water for All". However, later the contract came to halt and no further work has been done till now, he added.

The "Clean Drinking Water Initiatives" was started in February 2005 by Ministry of Special Initiatives, costing Rs. 999.541 million after many revisions of PC-1. Total number of plants to be installed was 445 but work orders were issued for only 406 plants in which 108 plants were completed and functional, 124 plants were completed but not functional and 102 plants were incomplete.

There were number of issues with this project like, no feasibility study was conducted, similarly lack of consultative process and no maintenance contract etc, he added.

After this, a task force on "Clean Drinking Water for All" was constituted on August 4th 2005. PC-1 was approved by ECNEC in October 2007, costing Rs. 15843.356 million after many revisions of PC-1. Total 6626 plants were required to be installed but only 294 plants were installed.

The NAB has authorized an inquiry in order to ascertain facts and those who are allegedly involved in the irregularities/corruption be brought to justice for causing huge loss to the national exchequer, Spokesman said.
