imagePESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Thursday witnessed worse commotion when legislators from both treasury and opposition benches not only exchanged harsh words but even abused each other.

The proceedings of the early sessions of the day including question-hour and all resolutions were passed unanimously and in a pleasant environment. However, criticism by Leader of the Opposition, Maulana Lutf-ur-Rehman on PTI chief Imran Khan and environment of his sit-in in the opening remarks of his speech on the political situation angered the treasury benches.

Maulana Lutf-ur-Rehman said that Imran Khan is criticizing others, but himself has turned the sit-in into a dance party. The uttering of these remarks infuriated the women legislators from PTI and they protested and asked the opposition leader to withdraw his un-parliamentary words.

In response to slogans of treasury benches, the members of joint opposition chanted slogans against the PTI leadership. Malik Behram of Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) and Abdul Monim of Awami Jamhuri Ittehad (AJI) coalition partners in KP government intervened and tried to pacify the legislators from both sides.

Though mediation of Malik Behram and Abdul Monim calmed down some of MPAs from both sides and several legislators including opposition leader Maulana Lutf-ur-Rehman left the house.

But, at this stage, Provincial Minister Shah Farman and parliamentary secretary Fazal Elahi charged towards opposition benches angrily. However, Shaukat Ali Yusufzai of PTI, Malik Behram of JI and Abdul Monim of AJI succeeded in bringing calm in the house.

Earlier, the opposition leader Maulana Lutf-ur-Rehman condemned suicide attack on JUI-F chief Maulana Fazal-ur-Rehman and thanked the house for showing unanimous solidarity with the later.

He recalled the sacrifices rendered by JUI F leadership for Islam and democracy in Pakistan. He said that parliament is a sacred institution and urged PTI chief, instead of speaking in the sit-in, raise his voice against rigging there.

He said that PTI chief instead of strengthening democracy is inviting dictatorship.

Maulana Lutf-ur-Rehman said that though Imran Khan is talking of free media, but on the other hand they are attacking official and private media groups.

He also criticized the Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for spending resources of the province on the sit-in in front of parliament house.

Later, the Speaker, Asad Qaiser adjourned the proceedings of the house till November 10.
