ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari has assured the Pakistan Red Crescent Society, of every possible support of the government in its humanitarian endeavors and towards making it a strong and a vibrant body.
In his message on the World Red Cross (Crescent) Day today (May 8), the President said the Day is a reminder of the great value of selfless efforts, both at individual and communal levels, which can make the country and the world a better place to live.
"Serving humanity voluntarily and regardless of considerations of nationality, race, religion, class, colour, creed, gender or political persuasion has earned the organization the genuine respect and admiration of all civilized people of which it can be rightly proud," the President said.
President Zardari greeted Pakistan Red Crescent Society and tens of thousands of workers and volunteers of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) across the globe on this World Red Cross Day on celebrating the 150th anniversary of continued service to humanity.
"The celebration today is also an occasion for every member and volunteer to reiterate their commitment towards those core values that have provided strength to the organization enabling it to steer through thick and thin," he said.
Zardari said, "On this occasion, let us also spare a thought and pay our tributes to Jean Henri Dunant, the great social activist, for pioneering the idea of establishing an organization dedicated to alleviating the sufferings of people."
He congratulated all those associated with ICRC and its noble mission.
