KARACHI: Pakistan’s off-spinner, Saeed Ajmal, might have hernia and need surgery before leaving for the ODI series in Scotland and Ireland in May.
He complained of pain in his lower abdomen, which has been bothering him since January in South Africa, and the doctors he recently consulted suggest he might have hernia. They also said it’s a common problem in sportsmen due to the massive amount of pressure and workload on them.
He was unable to play for the Faisalabad Wolves in the ongoing National T20 Super Eight because his doctors advised him to rest till his condition is more comprehensively assessed. He is currently in Faisalabad and means to have a follow-up examination in Lahore next week to confirm whether or not he needs surgery. If so, he would need two weeks to recover.
Ajmal, who has been Pakistan's leading bowler for the last couple of years according to the ICC bowling rankings, recently took 10 wickets in the second Test match against South Africa at Capetown. Last year, he took 39 wickets in 6 Test matches, making an average of 20.56, the best among the top ten bowlers. However, his best performance was in 2012 when his 24 wickets helped Pakistan beat England.
We wish the cricketer the best of health so that he may deliver similar record-beating performances in this year’s ICC Champions Trophy in England in June.
