ISLAMABAD: Flag hoisting ceremony held today at the Pakistan High Commission London to celebrate Pakistan Day,
High Commissioner Mr Wajid Shamsul Hasan hoisted the national flag and the messages of the President and the Prime Minister of Pakistan were read out, says a press release received here today from London.
Both the leaders paid fulsome tribute to the heroic struggle of the Muslims of the Sub-continent for an independent homeland under the leadership of Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah. It was because of the vision of the founding fathers that the Muslims of the Sub-continent achieved Pakistan on 14th August 1947, they stated.
In his address the High Commissioner said that Pakistan came into existence as a result of countless sacrifices in blood, toil and tears of the masses who remained steadfast in their commitment to pursue the destiny chosen for them by Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, Allama Dr. Muhammad Iqbal and those great leaders who braved worst possible persecution to keep alighted the torch of democracy.
The final goal for Pakistan was decided on March 23rd 1940 in Lahore under the leadership of Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, he said. The Quaid's unflinching faith in the democratic destiny of the nation for a socio- economic egalitarian system helped the Muslims of the Sub-continent to achieve it in a short span of seven years,he added.
The High Commissioner paid rich tribute to the sacrifices made by the armed forces and the people of Pakistan in war against terror. He also expressed his deep satisfaction on the completion of constitutional tenure of the Parliament and the government for the first time in Pakistan's history which would lead to further strengthening of democracy in Pakistan.
The school children presented popular national songs on this occasion.
