WASHINGTON: The Pakistani embassy led the Pakistan Day celebrations here Saturday with a flag-hoisting ceremony, paying tribute to the forefathers for their epic freedom struggle and resolving to work for the country's advancement as a strong nation.
Deputy Chief of the Mission Dr. Asad Majeed Khan hoisted the flag while the national anthem was played. He read out messages of the President and the Prime Minister, in which the two leaders congratulated the nation on democratic achievement with completion of the constitutionally mandated terms of the parliament and the government and called for continued efforts towards development of the country and welfare of the people.
The ceremony started with recitation of verses from the Holy Qur'an and concluded with prayers for progress, prosperity and solidarity of the country.
Members of Pakistani-American community, diplomats and staff of the embassy and children attired in traditional Pakistani dresses attended the ceremony in the embassy compound.
The deputy ambassador also hosted a reception at the embassy earlier this week to mark Pakistan Day, which was attended by senior American officials and members of Pakistani-American community.
