PARIS: The Ambassador of Pakistan to France Ghalib Iqbal, who holds the portfolio of Pakistan's Permanent Delegate to UNESCO as well, presented his credentials to the Director General UNESCO on Wednesday.
The Director General UNESCO Miss Irina Bokova welcomed him in her office. After the brief ceremony, the Ambassador had a meeting with her.
During the meeting they discussed the matters pertaining to Pakistan-UNESCO co-operation for development of Education, especially that among girl children around the world in general and in Pakistan in particular.
The Director General expressed her sense of gratitude for the people and Government of Pakistan for establishment of Malala Fund for promotion of female education.
She said that the courage of brave Malala Yousafzai and the response of the Government of Pakistan expressed the commitment of Pakistani society as a whole towards education.
Ambassador Ghalib Iqbal said that UNESCO had great role as prime world body towards achieving peace through promotion of education and protection and preservation of culture and heritage.
He said that Pakistan shall continue to play its role effectively at all international fora.
The Ambassador proposed solid steps by the UNESCO to monitor the auction, sale and illegal movement of Gandhara Artifice.
The Director General expressed confidence that Pak-UNESCO co- operation will grow and prosper during the tenure of Ambassador Ghalib Iqbal.
