Admission quota depends on charter of university: NA told

ISLAMABAD: Minister for Education and Training Sheikh Waqas Akram on Thursday informed the Lower House of Parliament that five federal government universities offer admission on quota basis while 14 universities follow open merit.

In response to questions during Question House, he said that admission quota depends on charter of the university.

Universities periodically review the intake in their degree programmes and increase the number of seats in each discipline keeping inview the academic and infrastructural support, he added.

In response to a supplementary question, the minister said that the government had released grant to Higher Education Commission for Karachi university in time. However, it was delayed due to strike in the AGPR.

He said that it was the government policy to set up university in all small cities for promotion of higher education in the country.
