Foreign Office condemns attacks on mosques in Afghanistan
- FO says attacks resulted in martyrdom of renowned religious scholars Dr Ayaz Niazi and Maulavi Azizullah Mofleh
(Karachi) Foreign Office has stated that Pakistan strongly condemns recent terrorist attacks on Wazir Akbar Khan and Sher Shah Suri mosques in Kabul that claimed lives of several worshippers.
In a statement on Sunday, the Foreign Office said the attacks resulted in the martyrdom of renowned religious scholars Dr. Ayaz Niazi and Maulavi Azizullah Mofleh. It mentioned that several innocent lives were also lost in the tragic incidents.
It said Pakistan reiterates its condemnation of terrorism in all its forms and manifestations. "Pakistan offer sympathies and condolences to the bereaved families and pray for early recovery of the injured," the FO stated.
It said that Pakistan stands in solidarity with the people of Afghanistan.
On June 12, a blast occurred in a mosque during Friday prayers killing at least four people and wounding at least eight worshippers.
Violence has spiked in recent weeks in Afghanistan, with most of the attacks claimed by the (Islamic State) IS affiliate, headquartered in the eastern Nangarhar province. Earlier this month, IS planted explosives at a mosque in Kabul's posh Wazir Akbar Khan neighborhood, killing the prayer leader there and wounding eight others.
