ISLAMABAD: The country will spend around Rs2.946 trillion on debt servicing including interest payments and retiring its principal amount, as and when due, during the next financial year 2020-21 which is around 40 percent of total budget outlay of Rs 7.132 trillion.
The government has earmarked Rs 2.946 trillion in the budget 2020-21 against Rs 3.986 trillion for the current fiscal year which was later revised to Rs3.954 trillion.
During 2020-21, on foreign debt servicing (interest payment), the country will expend Rs315.135 billion, while on foreign loan repayment (principal amount), the government has not budgeted any amount (in outgoing fiscal it was Rs1.245 trillion). On domestic debt servicing, the government has budgeted Rs2.631 trillion against Rs 2.53 trillion in 2019-20 which was later revised to Rs 2.374 trillion.
Pakistan's public debt and liabilities (domestic and external) has been recorded at Rs35.207 trillion by end-March 2020, compared with Rs 32.708 trillion at end June 2019, registering an increase of Rs 2.499 trillion during first nine month of current fiscal year.
