One dead, 12 injured as dust storm, strong winds hit city

  • Many feeders tripped and electricity wires broke due to impact of the storm

(Karachi) At least one person died while 12 others suffered injuries after tropical cyclone Nisarga hit the city in the form of a storm, bringing rain, power cuts and high gusts of winds.

People living in different areas reported a sandstorm coupled with thunder and lightning. Heavy winds blew of roofs and walls of some houses in different areas.

Many feeders tripped and electricity wires broke due to strong winds. Almost half of the metropolis was without electricity till filing of this report.

Power supply was suspended in different areas including Malir Halt, Moinabad, Tariq Bin Ziad Society, Model Colony, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Defence View, Mahmoodabad, Qayyumabad and other areas.

Earlier today, the Pakistan Met Department tweeted a warning that that Nisarga had formed a deep depression over the East-central Arabian Sea and intensified into a cyclonic storm at 1700PST. Winds of up to 60km/hr should be expected it said.
