      <title>Increase in POL prices challenged at LHC </title>

      <description>&lt;p&gt;&lt;img style="margin-right: 10px; margin-bottom: 10px; float: left;" alt=" " src="https://i.brecorder.com/images/stories/pics2011/april/price_400.jpg" width="400" height="266" /&gt;LAHORE: An application was moved on Friday in the Lahore High Court challenging recent increase in petroleum prices.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p class="MsoPlainText"&gt;The civil miscellaneous application was filed by Secretary Consumer Rights Forum Pakistan Muhammad Hanif Goraya through his counsel Mateen-ul-Haq Chaudhry into an already pending main writ petition on the matter.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p class="MsoPlainText"&gt;In his present application, the petitioner submitted that despite the matter was subjudice before the court the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) and federal government has further increased the prices of petroleum products by approximately 10 per cent.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p class="MsoPlainText"&gt;He contended that the notification regarding recent increase in POL prices was unlawful, ineffective, ultra vires over the rights of citizens of Pakistan, therefore, it was not sustainable in the eyes of law.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p class="MsoPlainText"&gt;He said the act of the respondents would impact the already crushed and downtrodden people of Pakistan.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p class="MsoPlainText"&gt;The petitioner said the matter was of grave public importance and the court should take notice of this on priority basis.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p class="MsoPlainText"&gt;He prayed to the court that the respondents be directed to withdraw the impugned notification and status quo be granted in the interest of public at large.&lt;/p&gt;
