ISLAMABAD: Food relief program in Bajaur which was ceased as a suicide bomber killed 46 people outside a World Food Program (WFP) center on Saturday, would resume in the restive tribal region after security measures were in place and investigations completed.

Spokesman for WFP Amjad Jamal while talking to APP said food relief program was continuing in other parts of the country while it will remain suspended in Bajaur as area has been sealed and security officials have imposed curfew there.

He said suicide bomber targetted the hub where many government buildings are located, adding four distribution centres had been operating in Bajaur.

Replying to a question, Jamal said there is no certainty as to how long supplies will be suspended. "At least 500 families" used to visit the centres regularly to receive food", he added.

About 94,000 people had been displaced from Bajaur agency, according to official figures, after the start of an army operation there in August 2008.

Returns began in 2009, but gained pace after the military declared victory in Bajaur in March this year.

A woman in a burqa lobbed two grenades at security personnel before detonating her explosives at a security checkpoint in Khar, the main town in Bajaur, on Saturday morning.

Hundreds of people, including women and children, were being screened there before they proceeded to a food distribution center about 1,600 feet away.The bombing also wounded more than 100 people.
