LONDON: Europe's main stock markets closed down on Friday, with London's FTSE 100 index of leading shares shedding 0.29 percent to 5,828.67 points.

In Paris, the CAC 40 dropped 0.89 percent to 3,928.68 points while in Frankfurt the DAX fell 1.16 percent to 6,981.49 points.
