&lt;p class="MsoPlainText"&gt;"We are highly satisfied with our current business performance and expect a strong first quarter on all fronts," Chief Executive Martin Winterkorn said in a statement on Thursday. Sales to customers rose 17.5 percent to about 1.2 million vehicles.&lt;/p&gt;
