LONDON: Europe's main stock markets closed down on Wednesday, with London's FTSE 100 index of leading shares shedding 0.63 percent to 5,937.3 points.

In Paris, the CAC 40 fell 0.55 percent to 3,993.81 points while in Frankfurt the DAX lost 0.46 percent to 7,131.80 points.
