NAB holds training session for KP anti-graft agency

PESHAWAR: National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa organized a training session on the topic “Role of Public Interests Disclosure Act, 2017 in Prevention of Corruption” at Provincial Anti-Corruption Establishment KP here on Thursday.

About 50 Officers (Circle Incharge and Assistant Directors) of the Anti-Corruption Establishment from across the province attended the session.

The training was part of a series of lectures mandated by Awareness & Prevention Division of NAB HQ Islamabad as an international obligation to disseminate knowledge for prevention of corruption under United Nations Charter Against Corruption (UNCAC).

Dr. Muhammad Nawaz Qaisar, Acting Director (Awareness & Prevention) NAB KP delivered lecture to the participants aiming dissemination of knowledge on preventive role of Public Interests Disclosure Act, 2017; an Act of Parliament which had received the assent of President of Pakistan on November 2, 2017.

The Act aims to provide mechanism for public interest disclosures, protection of persons making such disclosures (complainants) and witness, and grant of incentives to complainants in order to prevent corruption and corrupt practices.

Earlier this year, NAB (KP) has also organized training sessions on KPPRA rules and its effectiveness against corruption at Communication & Works Department KP; role of Public Interests Disclosures Act,2017 in prevention of corruption held at Federal Investigation Agency, Peshawar; corruption and fraud awareness and prevention held at Local Government, Election & Rural Development Department KP; and prevention of corruption within development organizations held at Peshawar Development Authority which were attended by a large number of officers of said organizations.

The activities aimed to fulfill mandatory requirements of 2nd Country Review of Pakistan regarding implementation of UNCAC which include measures to be taken for prevention of corruption in Pakistan.
