ISLAMABAD: The Upper House of the Parliament Thursday observed one minute silence in memory of the victims of Sri Lanka blasts on Easter Day.

The House also passed a unanimous resolution expressing its grief over loss of nearly 350 lives in Sri Lanka attack on Sunday.

The Leader of the Opposition in the Senate Raja Muhammad Zafar-ul-Haq tabled the resolution in the House.

Leader of the House in the Senate Syed Shibli Faraz termed terrorist attack in Sri Lanka a great tragedy and said, “We strongly condemn the terrorist attack and the elements involved in such a barbaric incident should be given exemplary punishment.”

Zafar-ul-Haq while condemning the cruel incident said the whole nation was standing with the people of Sri Lanka.

The House extended its heartfelt condolences to the people of Sri Lanka.

The lawmakers from the treasury and opposition benches expressed their sympathies with Sri Lankan government and affected families.

They said terrorism had no religion. They said the whole nation stood by the people of Sri Lanka. People of Pakistan which had rendered matchless sacrifices in war against terrorism felt the pain of Sri Lankan people, they added.

The House also offered Fateha for the departed souls of those martyred in various terrorist attacks in different parts such as; Balochistan, Peshawar and New Zealand.
