FRANKFURT: German carmaker BMW aims to produce around 30,000 units of its electric i3 model annually, magazine Automotive News Europe reported, citing Ian Robertson, the group's head of sales and marketing.

Robertson also said that supply of the i3 model, due to be built from 2013, could be increased even more if strong demand prevailed and said that sales volumes also depended heavily on legislation.

"If cities like Amsterdam and London introduce subsidies this will naturally boost sales too."
