A first batch of 250 newly-inducted traffic assistants including 20 women on Saturday completed their training to assist senior traffic wardens in countering growing challenges of traffic in Punjab. In this connection, the city police organised a graduation ceremony held here at Manawan Police Line to pay tributes to the new-inducted officials and those who embraced martyrdom in line of duty. A heavy contingent of police attended the event.
Addressing the ceremony as chief guest, Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Lahore Amin Wains appreciated the training patterns and announced a cash reward of Rs 100,000 for the trainers. Amin said he believes that this force will not only play an active role in managing traffic issues but also embrace martyrdom whenever deemed necessary. "The profession of traffic police is noble. Due to various developmental works, there are immense issues of traffic in the province," he said and hoped that the induction of this force will help the police department in saving lives of people by efficiently managing traffic problems.
The CCPO said this force is comprised of young lot as many of them are aged between 18 years or a little above. He also paid rich tributes to martyr cops, especially DIG Traffic Syed Ahmed Mubeen who embraced martyred in a suicide attack on Faisal Chowk last year and others who lost their lives for the protection of citizens.
Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Lahore Rai Ejaz Ahmed said that the police department had deployed this force during the cricket series of Pakistan Super League-III (PSL-III) in Lahore for testing purposes. During the playoffs, he said, the force performed excellent as compared to existing personnel as they are youngsters will full of passion. He said the Traffic Assistants were trained in 1.5 months. Out of the total, half of the force will be sent to Chung Training Centre for formal training within few days, he added.
Talking about the salary issues of traffic police personnel, the CTO said all problems have been resolved by hectic efforts of senior police officers. He said the ceremony will not be meaningful without mentioning scarifies of Constable Tanveer who embraced martyrdom while intercepting a suicide attacker before the PSL-III.
