Frequent power outages: JI to hold demonstration at CM House on April 20
Chief of Jamaat-e-Islami (JI), Senator, Siraj-ul-Haq on Saturday asked the public to crowd the Red-Zone in support of his party's call to besiege the Chief Minister House on April 20, saying that the JI is set to pull off the citizens from quagmire of poor governance.
Speaking at a press conference at Idara Noor-e-Haq, the JI Chief said that the his party will continue to support the public cause against the excesses of K-Electric and the provincial government, adding that rulers have completely left the metropolis abandoned despite extracting billions of revenues.
He said that "those who desire to see this city prosperous and glittering should come out to succeed this struggle of Jamaat-e-Islami fore rights of citizens," adding that the poor governance turned Karachi into a web of crisis. "The JI is with the public and will continue to represent their aspirations," he vowed.
This southern port city - Karachi, is being treated like an exclave of occupants, he said, adding that the ruling class enjoys the benefits of its status but provide nothing even the basic utilities to the citizens. He invited the public to crowd the Red-Zone area of the city to register their protest with rulers against the continuing bad governance.
"It is not the public responsibility rather the K-Electric to run its electricity generation plants on furnace oil if gas supplies are lower," Siraj-ul-Haq said, adding that "this is too the government's responsibility to ensure easy and uninterrupted supplies of electricity to the public". Despite paying taxes and electricity bills, the public continue to fall victims to bad governance and prolonged power outages.
Practically, he said, the government, Nepra and K-Electric are in an intriguing agreement to fleece the public and keep them in darkness. Even, the JI Chief regretted, the students of matric level are not able to make preparations for their exams since the electricity is almost cut-off.
The government's silence transpires a veiled support to the power supplying company for its failure. The JI is taking out protest rally on April 20 to lay siege to the Chief Minister House against the prolonged and unschooled electricity load shedding and holding a one-day strike on April 27, the JI Chief told newsmen.
