The PTI led provincial government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has decided to give legal cover to Sehat Insaf Card Programme (SICP) launched to provide heath protection to eligible beneficiaries in the province. The programme was initially launched for 1.7 million populations, but later was extended to seven million more including all employees of public and autonomous bodies including universities, medical institutes, lawyers and journalists. However, it was linked with the payment of premium by the employees concerned.
For giving legal cover and making it a regular programme of the provincial government, a bill has been introduced in the provincial assembly. The initiative has been started under the head of social health protection programme of the provincial government.
The draft bill carrying the title of KP Sehat Insaf Bill, 2018, the provincial government would provide regular budget to the health department for running the programme while the beneficiaries would be selected on the basis of Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) criteria.
