Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan on Sunday visited the bereaved family of Intezar Ahmad who was allegedly shot dead by personnel of Anti-Car Lifting Cell of the Sindh Police in Defence Housing Authority's Khayaban-e-Ittehad vicinity on January 13. After his condolence visit, the PTI chief held media talk along with Intezar's father Ishtiaq Ahmed, and said that the Sindh Police has miserably failed to protect lives and properties of masses. He said that the people have lost their trust in police department. Appointments of policemen are being made on political grounds. This menace has eroded people's faith in the institution to provide them justice, he said.
Intezar's father on this occasion expressed severe reservations over the ongoing investigation into the killing case, and urged that the case should be taken up by an anti-terrorism court for speedy justice. The demand was also backed by Imran Khan who said that the case must be transferred to the anti-terrorist court. It may be relevant to mention here that the case being probed by a joint investigation team (JIT) comprised representatives of Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), Intelligence Bureau (IB), Pakistan Rangers, Military Intelligence (MI), Special Branch and Karachi Police.
Meanwhile the CCTV footage of Inerzar's killing came to limelight on Sunday. The video which was on aired on sections of media shows that Intezar's vehicle is being stopped by the plain cloth man first, followed by gunfire from the back soon after the vehicle was signalled to go forward. It was unclear from the footage whether the men were police, or someone else.
