The Pakistan Hindu Council is holding its 10th annual combined marriages programme on Sunday evening, its patron-in-chief, Ramesh Kumar Vankwani, said on Saturday. Dr Vankwani, who is also chairman of the National Assembly's Standing Committee on Statistics, said that 82 couples will get married in a colourful cultural ceremony, starting at 6 pm.
"Various prominent dignitaries will also be present on the occasion to bless the couples," he said. The Council will provide financial support to the newly-wed couples, and give rickshaws to deserving people and sewing machines to poor women, so that they can raise their families with honour and dignity. He said combined marriage ceremonies like this one will convey a positive image of Pakistan abroad.
