Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) on Saturday launched child protection campaign in Peshawar, Mardan, Swabi, Bannu, Haripur and other districts. The initiative is part of the countrywide campaign to raise awareness about various aspects of child abuse. PML-N MNA Tahira Bukhari was the chief guest of the ceremony held at Darmangi, Warsak Road. Director General (DG) BISP, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa/FATA Irfan Aman Yousafzai.
Speaking on the occasion, MNA Tahira Bukhari said that the protection and welfare of the children is the top priority of the PML-N government and taking steps to prevent the maltreatment and equipment of poor and destitute children with education to turn them into useful persons of the society.
She said that under the BISP, the present federal government has launched Waseela-e-Taleem Programme for the poor and deserving children. She said that 1.8 million children are taking benefits of the programme under which each child is being paid a stipend of Rs 4534.
The woman legislator said that BISP launched child protection campaign at its all district and tehsil headquarters levels across the country. She said abusing children is inhuman act and people involved in this heinous crime should be punished to protect the precious human lives. She urged the parents to guide against receiving sweets, edible things or gifts from unknown persons. She said that need of the hour is to guide the children.
The campaign, she said has been planned under the concept of social responsibilities envisaging a call to attract other segments of the society. Tahira Bukhari urged upon the members of parliament, academia, civil society, NGOs, media and other stakeholders to come up against this social evil by protesting valuable human lives.
She said during the campaign BISP women leaders, beneficiaries and their children would be provided proper awareness to ensure security to the children. Earlier, DG BISP KP/FATA, Irfan Aman Yousafzai highlighted the aims of launching child protection programme all across the country including Peshawar and FATA. The programme was also attended by large number of people from different walk of life including parents and their children.
