Undersco-ring the importance of reforming a number of existing laws which are not consistent with the present framework of society, Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar on Thursday said that a standard of competency of judiciary is also connected with learning of contemporary techniques.
"For expeditious disposal of cases in presence of existing laws, we are laying the foundation to provide justice to people of Pakistan. We are very sincere and determined to do the best of our ability for the cause," Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar said while talking to Supreme Court reporters before commencing a meeting of Law and Justice Commission of Pakistan (LJCP) to review implementation status of the Commission's review reports.
Citing his recent meeting with Chairman Senate Mian Raza Rabbani, Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar maintained that both sides are in favour to update the laws, adding there are some reasons behind non-delivery from the LJCP as executive's progress is slow to implement as many as 74 recommendations of the Commission.
Talking about inexpensive and expeditious dispensation of justice, Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar said that there should be a permanent head of the LJCP, saying strategies to clear backlog and elimination of multiplicity and overlapping of laws to ensure effective enforcement of laws is need of the hour.
"Second important aspect is that we need a competent judiciary. We need a force of competent judges in order to lessen burden of pendency over a judge in the court. We have to arrange refresher courses for judges for standard of competency through latest technology," said Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar.
Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar said issue of delayed justice would be solved with co-operation of lawyers in the country so members of the legal fraternity should also play their role to address the issue.
