Exports of textile group posted a growth of 10 percent in December 2017 over the same month a year before, according to Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS). Commodity-wise trade figure uploaded by the PBS on Tuesday showed that exports of textile group have increased to $1.132 billion in December 2017 from $ 1.028 billion in December 2016. Export of raw cotton increased to $3.1 million in December 2017 from $2.372 million for the same month a year ago, showing an increase of 30.69 percent while cotton yarn increased to $107.841 million from $107.335 million noting an increase of 0.47 percent.
Cotton cloth exports increased to $ 179.038 in December 2017, up by 6.12 percent over $168.712 million for the same month of last fiscal year, while export of yarn other than cotton yarn increased to $2.254 million, up by 51.28 percent, over US $1.490 million for the same month a year before. Export of knitwear remained $236.482 million in December 2017, up by 19.99 percent over US $197.086 million for the same month a year before; export of bed wear reached $176.987 million during the period under review, up by 4.07 percent over US $170.064 million over December 2016; and exports of readymade garments remained US $229.914 million, up by 8.64 percent over US $211.631 for the same month of the last fiscal year.
Export of art, silk & synthetic textile have been $ 23.966 million during December 2017, up by 572 percent over $3.566 million in December 2016; made-up articles, (excluding towels & bed wear) US $57.490 million, up by 2.93 percent over US $55.852 in December 2016; while exports of other textile materials remained US $37.324 million in December 2017, up by 21.31 percent over US $30.768 million recorded in December 2016.
Exports of towels stood at $ 63.838 million, down by 2.61 percent over US $62.212 for the same month a year before and exports of tents, canvas and tarpaulin remained US $14.361 million during December 2017, down by 16.15 percent over US $17.128 million for the same month a year before. Textile sector exports during the first six months of the current fiscal year were $6.642 billion, 8.07 percent up from $6.146 billion for July-December 2016.
