'PITB's automated system collects Rs 10.27 billion within two years'

The Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB)'s automated Motor Vehicle Registration System (MVRS) developed for the Punjab Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control Department (ETN&C) collected Rs 10.27 billion on account of 250,000 vehicles token tax in two years ie 2016 Rs 4.76 billion and in 2017 Rs 5.51 billion.
Dr. Umar Saif founding Vice Chancellor of Information Technology University (ITU) the Punjab, Chairman PITB was updated during a progress review meeting here Saturday.
Dr Umar Saif directed the concerned officials to ensure timely completion of Vehicles Automated Registration Card (ARC) for its launch in March 2018, being developed by PITB for ETN&C Department, which would improve the tax collection process with transparency and efficiency to facilitate the people in all 36 districts across the Punjab Province. ARC would replace the old manual registration Book, token tax collection and it would be easy to carry, transfer the vehicle from any district of the Punjab province, eliminating chances of forgery, which would contain secured data and security features regarding the ownership and the vehicle's specifications, the meeting was informed.
While acknowledging the untiring efforts of PITB team, Dr Saif said that now most of the functioning of the Punjab government department have been digitalized through induction of technological interventions, which has simplified the process, improved efficiency, curtailed malpractices, established transparency.
