Two prime suspects accused of a high-profile killing incident, which claimed the life of the nephew of ruling party's MNA Afzal Khokhar, have been arrested by the Iranian authorities while attempting to flee to Turkey, reliable sources told Business Recorder here on Saturday. According to the sources, the accused Aslam Bhatti alias Achha Bhatti and Aslam alias Neela were arrested while they were trying to escape to Turkey via Quetta - Iran route. The sources said both the suspects have been handed over to Pakistani officials by the Iranian authorities and a high-level police team was also dispatched to Balochistan to take them in custody and bring them back to Lahore.
The sources further said that the team comprising of Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) Deputy Superintendent of Police Zahid, DSP Farooq and DSP Anwar Saeed had left for Quetta to bring the culprits back. Upon arrival in the city, the sources apprehended that the accused might be killed in a fake police encounter. Despite repeated attempts, Superintendent of Police (CIA) Syed Nadeem Abbas and Deputy Inspector General of Police (Operations) Lahore Dr Haider Ashraf did not respond to calls and text messages for their official version.
Earlier this month, PML-N MNA Malik Afzal Khokhar's nephew Imran Shafi and his gunman Abdul Khaliq were killed in an armed clash between two rival groups at a marriage ceremony in Johar Town. Subsequently, Imran and Khaliq died on way to hospital.
