The Pakistan Edible Oil Conference (PEOC) which started its journey in February 2016 is indeed a perfect showcase for the Edible Oil and Oilseed Industry of Pakistan. Pakistan is the Third largest importer of Edible Oils and one of the key importers of Oilseeds. However, unfortunately our market was not getting due recognition from the Global community though the performance of Pakistan market has been exceptional. All the Associations working on the same platform is also an exceptional performance and deserve full credit.
The import volume of Pakistan is consistently increasing due to growth in population and improvement in the purchasing power of common man. The logistics for handling imported Edible Oil is absolutely first class and can be compared with any port in the World. The waiting period for the tankers is negligible which encourages owners to prefer Pakistan ports over others. On the Oilseed, while we indeed have an excellent Jetty at Port Qasim, the logistics need more improvement to cater the ever-growing demand of Oilseeds.
The culture of branding Edible Oils is catching up the momentum which shows that our Industry is going towards qualitative products. We have top class brands in Pakistan and if the duty structure was favorable, we could have very good export market for our finished products.
All these attributes need to be propagated and for this purpose the platform of PEOC is very ideal. It is indeed a matter of great satisfaction that all renowned Speakers present their papers in PEOC which shows the value of Pakistan market.
