Judicial Commission of Pakistan on Thursday recommended elevation of Chief Justice Lahore High Court, Justice Mansoor Ali Shah, to Supreme Court of Pakistan. A meeting of Judicial Commission for appointment of judges in the superior courts was held in the Supreme Court building. Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar being Chairman of the Commission presided over the meeting.
Sources said that the commission recommended elevation of Chief Justice Lahore High Court Justice Mansoor Ali Shah to Supreme Court of Pakistan. Similarly, the commission recommended Justice Yawar Ali Khan as the new Chief Justice of Lahore High Court.
Justice Yawar Ali was one of the members of the Special Court hearing the high treason case against former Army Chief and President Pervez Musharraf for imposing emergency rule in the country in 2007. The Judicial Commission recommended six names for appointment at Sindh High Court (SHC) as additional judges. The Commission also recommended two district and sessions court judges including Ishrat Ali Shah and Kausar Sultana Hussain, besides recommending names of four lawyers, including Adnan Iqbal Chaudhry, Amjad Ali Sahito, Agha Faisal and Shamsuddin Abbasi, for appointment as additional judges for a year.
Currently, out of total strength of 40 judges, 33 judges are working in the Sindh High Court. The recommendations made by the Judicial Commission on Thursday will now be sent to Parliamentary Committee on Judges Appointment for consideration.
