Karachi would become concrete jungle, if high-rise building allowed: SC

KARACHI: The Supreme Court on Saturday observed that Karachi would become a concrete jungle, if construction of six-storied building is allowed in every area.

The apex court bench comprising Justice Faisal Arab and Justice Sajjad Ali Shah was hearing an application seeking interpretation of its earlier order that allowed the construction of maximum six-storied buildings.

Earlier, the apex court on the plea of Association of Builders and Developers (ABAD) had lifted the ban on construction of high-rise buildings.

The court explained that its earlier directives that allowed two-storied building were for specific areas, ruling that the ban on more than two-storied buildings was still imposed in most part of the city.

Justice Arab remarked that if they allowed construction of six-storied building in each and every area, the city would become a jungle. He said that the court did not make any law but just imposed a ban.

Earlier, the apex court, while hearing the case pertaining to provision of pure drinking water and sanitation issues, in March 2017 had imposed a ban on construction of multi-storied building until the issues were resolved.
