ISLAMABAD: Chairman Higher Education Commission (HEC) Dr Mukhtar Ahmad on Friday said that the Kashmir issue could be resolved through education and it should be handed over to the universities.

Addressing the Farewell Press Conference here at Commission’s Secretariat on completion of his five years tenure as a Chairman HEC, he said that he has also requested in his speech in the president house held recently that Kashmir issue should be handed over to the universities.

He also lauded the support of all the institutions supported him including the government, education and planning committees and especially the Minister for Planning, Development and Reforms Prof Ahsan Iqbal in the mission of promotion of higher education sector.

“I am satisfied with my performance during last five years in higher education sector as HEC Chief" Dr Mukhtar told the media persons.

The national stance of Pakistan was also prepared by a university; he said adding that HEC has also initiated different projects regarding China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). Presently the country is on the right track, as now we are able to support other countries rather than to beg from them, he remarked.

He lauded the efforts of his whole team saying that he alone was unable to work. The issues of country would be resolved jointly; he said and thanked the government trust on him.    To a question, the Chairman said that the new Chief of the Commission would be appointed only on merit.

“I had visited all the institution for the development of the education sector” Dr Mukhtar added.

Chairman further said that despite having ability, many steps could not be taken and hoped that coming new chief of HEC would do so. He said that Pakistan is facing many challenges which could be faced only through education.

He stressed the need to create hope among the nation as it is need of the hour and we should collectively make efforts in this regard.

It is pertinent to mention here that the tenure of present Chairman HEC would be completed by April 15 on Sunday and he has applied for extension of his tenure for next five years on merit base.
