Pakistan is planning to use One Day International batsman Fakhar Zaman as an opening batsman to pressure the opponents in their upcoming tour of Ireland and England.
As per local media reports, Pakistan head coach Mickey Arthur is considering to use Zaman, known for his aggressive batting style but yet to play a Test match, at the top of the batting line similar to the role of Australia’s David Warner. Zaman is part of the 25-member squad participating in the Test Camp for the upcoming tour.
Pakistan has recently been quite impressive in the limited overs format. They won the Champions Trophy held in England last year and are reigning at number one spot in T20 rankings. However, they have not managed to change their fate in Test cricket, particularly after the retirement of Younis Khan and Misbah-ul-Haq.
The defeat in both the Test matches against the weakened Sri Lankan side at UAE came as a major shock for Pakistan, which has propelled the coaching staff and players to think out of the box.
Pakistan head coach has previously said that his job is to change the culture in Pakistan cricket. "I am changing the culture in this Pakistan environment and I am not interested in players doing just the bare minimum. I want players winning us games of cricket and pushing themselves to be the best they can be,” he had said.
Pakistan are scheduled to play three Test matches during tours of England and Ireland.
