Greek fighter jet comes down in Aegean, pilot missing: state TV

ATHENS: A Greek fighter pilot was missing Thursday after his Mirage 2000-5 plane came down in the Aegean Sea after intercepting Turkish jets, state TV ERT said.

Coastguard and navy vessels have been dispatched to near the island of Skyros, where the plane is believed to have come down.

It was not immediately clear if the pilot had ejected.

ERT said the aircraft was part of a two-plane patrol that had just intercepted Turkish fighter jets.

Greek fighter planes are regularly scrambled to intercept Turkish jets who enter what Athens considers Greek airspace over the Aegean.
