LAHORE: An accountability court on Wednesday ordered medical examination of Shahid Shafique, involved in Ashiana Housing Scam, from Sheikh Zayed Hospital.

Accountability Court-V Judge Syed Najamul Hassan passed the orders while accepting an application filed by the wife of accused Shahid Shafique for the purpose.

Earlier, the applicant's counsel alleged that the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) subjected Shahid Shafique to torture during physical remand. He pleaded with the court to order medical examination of the accused.

However, NAB's prosecutor opposed the plea, saying that no torture had been committed. The accused Shahid Shafique was also presented in the court. The court after hearing arguments of the parties ordered medical examination of the accused from Sheikh Zayed Hospital.

It is pertinent to mention here that Shahid Shafique, owner of Bismillah Engineering, is still in the custody of NAB on physical remand.

Shahid Shafique had been accused of illegally acquiring a Rs 14 billion contract in Ashiana Housing Project. The accused in connivance with the LDA officers had presented fake documents of joint consortium and eventually obtained a contract of Rs 14 billion being owner of C4 category company, which was not eligible to get a contract worth more than Rs 150 million.
