KARACHI: Sindh Governor Muhammad Zubair on Monday said that the journalism is fourth pillar of the State which is playing an important role in welfare of the people and ensuring transparency in the projects for the betterment of the public.
He said this while talking to a 11-member delegation of Sindh Journalists Council (SJC) led by its President Ghazi Jhander, which called on him at the Governor House here, according to a press release.
The Sindh Governor said that the role of the media cannot be forgotten for continuity of the democratic process.
He said that the present government believes in freedom of speech and independent media.
Members of the delegation included Mushtaq Sarki, Khuda Dino Shah, Najeeb Naich, Imtiaz Mir, Hameed Soomro, Akram Baloch, Qamar Memon, Qadir Lashari, Nawaz Dahri and Zia Qureshi.
The delegation discussed with the Sindh Governor the matters related to the security and protection of journalists, medical facility for the journalists, freedom of speech and media, role of media for the cause of democracy in the country and role of media in ensuring transparency in public welfare projects.
Talking to the delegation, the Sindh Governor said that projects of public welfare, promotion of education, provision of basic facilities to the masses are among the top priorities of the present government.
He said that the media highlights the social evils and criticism is right of the media, but the good steps of the government should also be promoted.
