ISLAMABAD: Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry Sunday said the government would follow the directives of Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) regarding formation of new joint investigation team (JIT) for probing the Zainab murder case.

Talking to a private news channel, he said the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) government was in favour of independence of media but it was unfortunate that there was no mechanism introduced for its accountability.

He said the media was being fourth pillar of the state an important institution, but its owners of media outlets despite being signatory to a code of conduct were not enforcing it.

'Rating' was the main objective of media channels, which telecast any news without its verification, he added.

The minister of state said the accused of the Kasur incident had been arrested and all legal requirements were being fulfilled to get him punished and Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif was personally supervising the case.

He said judicial reforms were necessary for providing speedy justice to the people.
