ISLAMABAD: Senate Special Committee, examining overall working of the Sports Federations in Pakistan, Friday sought details of financial expenditures of the Pakistan Football Federal (PFF), directing the authorities concerned to submit the required information in next meeting.
The committee meeting, chaired by Dr Ashok Kumar, expressed concern over the matters related to the PFF as its officials could not satisfy the body members on various issues and queries.
The body decided to write a letter to Islamabad High Court requesting to look into the matters of the PFF.
The committee also summoned Chairman Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Najam Sethi for briefing in the next meeting.
It criticized imposition of tax on sports equipment and recommended its abolishment to promote healthy activities in the country.
Minister for Inter Provincial Coordination Riaz Hussain Pirzada highlighted the role of National Accountability Bureau in eliminating corruption, adding that the players who were found involved in corrupt practices were given punishment.
He underlined the need for promoting football activities in the country by encouraging good people in this area. Committee Member Shibli Faraz stressed to devise such a mechanism under which sports activities could be promoted in a smooth manner without anyone’s interference.
Memer Khushbakht Shujaat complained that the Sindh Women Hockey team had not received the funds amounting to Rs one million.
The minister assured the provision of funds, which were announced for the provincial hockey team.
