The security strategy for oil and gas installations experiences has been devised following terrorist attack that killed two employees of the Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) at Sohbatpur in Jaffarabad district when they were going to the Uch gas field from Dera Allahyar in a vehicle on Feb 4.

"Better late than never, you know, we had been engaged in thread bare discussions to have an effective remedy to security problems, resultantly the oil companies and Balochistan government decided to form district level committees taking all stakeholders on board to enure congenial environment for smooth operation of exploration and production activities in the province", an official of Ministry of Petroleum said here on Monday.

Giving details, the official said committees would be headed by the Deputy Commissioner concerned and other members included DPO and representatives from FC Balochistan and gas companies concerned.

The committee would examine and work out the security plan for pipelines and it would take sock of existing security measures and suggest further for adequate security for exploration site, staff and equipments, the source said.

The new security measures would also cover and make arrangements in the areas, where new discoveries were in the offing.

The official said Balochistan government also agreed to take a lead in such matters through engaging the civilian administration.

The official hoped these efforts would send positive signals to the companies engaged in exploration and production operations in Balochistan and help encourage ivestment in oil and gas sector.

The source said the OGDCL would develop five oil and gas fields in a bid to produce about 400 MMcfd natural gas and 500 metric tons of LPG per day to overcome energy shortage.

The plan was thrashed out at a recent meeting held between the Secretary Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Resources Imtaiz Kazi and Nawab M. Aslam Raisani, Chief Minster, Balochistan Chief Secretary Balochistan,IG, Home Secretary, IG FC and senior officers of Balochistan Government and heads of relevant security agencies.

Other participants included Managing Directors of OGDCL, PPL, SSGCL and Director General Petroleum Concessions.
