LA PAZ: Bolivia's leftist president Evo Morales said Friday he wanted to restore diplomatic ties with the United States once President-elect Donald Trump takes office.
Bolivia expelled the US ambassador to La Paz in 2008, accusing him of ties to a right-wing plot against its government. Washington responded in kind, denying the accusation.
"We hope, with a new government in the United States, to restore relations and exchange ambassadors, respecting the sovereignty and dignity of our people," Morales wrote on Twitter ahead of Trump's swearing-in ceremony.
Trump's election as president has raised uncertainty in Latin America after his hardline comments on migrants from the region and his vows to revise trade agreements in order to protect US jobs.
