ISLAMABAD: A larger bench of the Supreme Court of Pakistan led by Justice Asif Saeed Khosa resumed hearing the Panama Leaks case on Tuesday.
According to latest local media reports, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's counsel Makhdoom Ali Khan continued his argument and asked that the Prime Minister be given immunity under Article 248 of the constitution.
"We have asked for a constitutional immunity under Article-248 besides Article-66," said Makhdoom Ali Khan.
Khan, who replaced Salman Aslam Butt, maintained in the same court on Monday that the Prime Minister could not be disqualified on the basis of speeches and dual nationality and stressed the country's premier never lied in his speeches and has immunity from prosecution.
"All the decisions in disqualification cases in the past were taken after evaluating substantial evidences," claimed the premier's counsel while giving an example of Mubashir Hasan case.
Justice Asif Saeed Khosa remarked Panama Case was of different nature. "We are only trying to understand the case through his (PM's) speeches," he told Makhdoom Ali Khan.
According to media reports, PM's daughter Maryam Nawaz submitted documents in the Supreme Court today, informing that she had never been the dependant of her father since she married in 1992.
She also submitted details of her income from agricultural and non-agricultural sources in the last five years. According to tax details, Maryam paid a total Rs2,314,917 in tax in 2012; Rs6,517,504 in 2013; Rs8,872,742 in 2014; Rs9,340,243 in 2015; and Rs12,128,778 in 2016.
Maryam has further stated that after her marriage she remains dependent no more.
Requesting the court to include documents and related statements in the record, Maryam urged the Supreme Court to take action against the plaintiffs for leveling baseless allegations against her.
