imageISLAMABAD: Pakistani buffalo scientists topped amongst all countries in terms of numbers in making scientific contributions in their presentations in symposia on reproduction, breeding and genetics, nutrition, dairy, meat and socio economic aspects in the three days World Buffalo Congress.

As many as 18 participants led by Prof. Talat Pasha Vice Chancellor, University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Lahore participated in the joint 10th World Buffalo and 7th Asian Buffalo Congress at Phuket Thailand, where over 350 delegates from 36 countries took interest in buffalo research and development, Technology Times Reported.

Prof. Pasha spoke about the challenges faced by the producers in feeding the buffaloes, the available feeding resource and the new ways of feeding to maximize the growth and production potential of buffaloes. He said the exact nutrient requirements for a milking buffaloes still need to be worked out.

He said that these types of events provide opportunities to get a research update, share ideas and develop, international linkages.

He further said that this strong Pakistani participation could not be possible without the support of Livestock and Dairy Development Department, Punjab. Next Asian Buffalo Congress will be held in 2015 in Istanbul and the world Buffalo Congress in 2016 in Columbia.

Prof. M. Abdullah, Dean Faculty of Animal Products and Technology, UVAS, Lahore, Prof. M. Sarwar, Dean Animal Husbandry at UAF, Faisalabad, and M. Nawaz, Director General, Extension, Livestock Department, Punjab, also presented the papers.
