KARACHI: Routine life and business activities have been badly affected in the city because of unscheduled and prolonged power load shedding.
Several areas of the city face 10-12 hours long power failures.
The Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) had alerted citizens about the inevitable increase in the duration of load shedding in the coming week across all residential and commercial localities of the city which may go as high as 14 hours a day.
Underlining major reasons behind this unpleasant but unavoidable step, KESC said that despite repeated requests, the Government has not taken action to release the power utility's outstanding dues of Rs71 billion.
KESC stated that the liquidity crisis has made it impossible for the utility to purchase furnace oil to run its generating units. The limited gas supply has already limited its capacity to run the gas-fired power plants.
