ROME: Italian Prime Minister Enrico Letta said on Tuesday that European countries cannot be united by the euro alone, but must develop into a political union.
"Our continent cannot be united by the euro alone," he told the upper house of parliament before a vote of confidence on the new government, adding the EU countries must come together politically or "slowly decline".
