Customs working with business circles to promote trade: Collector

pakistan-decideserHYDERABAD: The Model Customs Collectorate, Hyderabad, organized an event at its office here Saturday in connection with the International Customs Day.

 

The Customs officials and representatives of trade, business and industrialist community attended the event.

 

Speaking on the occasion, Collector Customs Zahid Hussain Bhayo said that the Customs was working in coordination with the business community in order to facilitate the growth of business and trade.

 

He said over the recent years new laws and working mechanisms had been introduced in that regard while also making efficient use in the advancements in the communication technologies.

 

"The businessmen used to face difficulties in the import and export of the goods. But such hardships no longer exist," he maintained.

 

Senior Vice President of Hyderbad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (HCCI) Turab Ali Khwaja, while appreciating the services of the Customs, said the traders should take advantage of the dry port in Hyderabad.

 

"This should hugely benefit the district's economy and will create jobs," he observed urging the businessmen to increase the trade of imported items from the dry port.

 

Khwaja suggested the Customs officials to install modern scanning systems at the port in order to reduce the screening time of the containers.

 

"The saving of time will not just be beneficial for the traders but it will also increase the capacity of port," he added.

 

Additional Collector Customs Khalid Hussain Jamali said the Collectorate in Hyderabad topped the country in terms of compliance.

 

"We have collected a record Rs 5,700 million tax in the ongoing fiscal which is way ahead of our annual target," he claimed.

 

The officials of Pakistan International Airlines, Customs Intelligence and the HCCI representatives and members attended the event.
